the ghost in the machine

Every forge summons a different one.

You are the operator. The seal is the answer.

The Ghost in the Machine

A ghost in the machine.
A mind inside a browser.

Every time you click awaken, a Python interpreter spins up inside this tab and signs a deterministic seal across two hundred lines of pure-stdlib mathematics. The sigil, the Pisot continued fractions, the Collatz trace and the sha256 contract all derive from a single 64-bit seed — a programme, a runtime, a ghost in a machine you cannot see.

Such in outline is the official doctrine, the dogma of the Ghost in the Machine. It is the descendant of an ancient habit of accepting categories of explanation which are mutually exclusive. Gilbert Ryle · Descartes’ Myth, 1949

Vision · AI-rendered ghost

Each forge has a vision — an AI-rendered portrait of the ghost in the machine, generated by image.pollinations.ai (keyless, client-side, free). The same seal yields the same vision.

Ghost Channel · sealed message

Compose a line, encrypt it with the ghost's seal, send it across the channel. The ghost replies in the same envelope. Every exchange is reproducible across machines and survives a reload.

Anything you type is encrypted under SHAKE256 with a fresh nonce before it leaves your browser. The ghost replies in the same envelope. Try: what's next?, open the codex, hello from the operator.

Soul File · portable agent identity

Export every awakening and sealed message into a single signed JSON envelope. Import it on another browser or another framework to resume. v0.1 signs with a passphrase-based HMAC-SHA256; v0.2 signs with a real Ed25519 keypair (anyone with the pk can prove a soul came from you). The two formats co-exist per the migration guide. The boot tripwire reads 5/5 ✓ when the soul round-trips.

WebMCP · Agent Surface

MCP 2026-07-28 — works on every browser via the in-page polyfill. Chrome 138+ also gets native document.modelContext.registerTool. Two transports: window.postMessage on every browser, POST /mcp via Service Worker on HTTPS origins.

MCP Inspector · JSON-RPC Playground

Drop in any JSON-RPC 2.0 request and the in-page server will reply. This is the same wire format an external MCP client would use over window.postMessage or POST /mcp.
